CDE: 2021–22 Child and Adult Care Food Program Annual Update for Child and Adult Care Centers

This notification was sent out to the CACFP listserv with CDE yesterday July 12th.

This Listserv notifies the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Operators that the

administration of the CACFP has now transferred to the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) on July 1, 2021. The 2021–22 program year will open on Monday, August 2, 2021. Agencies must update and submit their application in the Child Nutrition Information and Payment System (CNIPS) prior to August 31, 2021. The submittal of the CACFP Financial Summary Document is one of the requirements for a complete annual update. In preparation for the 2021–22 CACFP annual update, this Listserv notifies CACFP agencies that part of the annual update application process includes submitting the CACFP Financial Summary Document. According to Title 7, Code of Federal Regulations, sections 226.6(b)(1) and (2), the CDSS must review financial information annually. The CACFP Financial Summary Document is a self-reporting tool that captures pertinent financial figures. This information is required and used by the CDSS to help determine a CACFP agency’s financial viability. The document, along with the instructions, is available in the Download Forms section of the CNIPS, Form ID CACFP 87. Agencies must upload the form to the Checklist section of the Application Packet in the CNIPS. Agencies may also fax, email, or mail the document to their assigned specialist’s attention. Notes:

  • Do not submit the agency-wide 12-month independently audited financial statement, a Profit/Loss Statement, or income tax returns in lieu of the Form ID CACFP 87.

  • Public agencies (school food authorities, government, and county agencies) are not required to submit the Form 87.

  • Before you begin your annual update for Program Year (PY) 2021–22, you must ensure that your CNIPS Application Packet for PY 2020–21 is in an Approved status. Select PY 2020–21, open your Application Packet, and ensure that all forms and Site Applications are in an Approved status.
