Meals for Own Children: New Clarifying Guidance

Updated: Apr 30, 2020

The Roundtable received a few questions about whether or not a FDCH provider could claim meals for their own, eligible children. On April 27th FNS offered (via email to Roundtable leadership) clarifying guidance on claiming meals for a family child care provider's own children during the COVID-19 crisis.

"FDCH providers are allowed to continue to claim their own children as they usually would during this time. According to 7 CFR 226.18(e)(1), (2) and (3), this is allowed if the provider’s own children are enrolled and participating in the child care program during the time of meal service, if at least one other child besides the provider’s own children is receiving meals, and if the provider’s children are eligible to receive free or reduced-price meals. Given the COVID-19 circumstances, although the enrolled children are not physically present, if the FDCH provider is continuing meal service operations whether it’s in a non-congregate setting or through meal delivery, then the providers may continue to claim the children they usually claim, including their own."
