Sample Comments - USDA Proposed Rule Affecting CACFP

Updated: Mar 17, 2020

EXTENDED DEADLINE! Comments due April 22, 2020.

At the end of January, the USDA issued a proposed rule that, while primarily focused on school meals, includes several important proposals for the CACFP, including updates the regulations on meal modifications for disability or non-disability reasons, expanded flexibility for State Administrative Funds, and requests comments on future regulatory action to allow grain-based desserts to count toward the grains requirement in CACFP.

Why Comment? USDA is asking for your feedback and needs to hear from the CACFP community. We have the right to participate in the regulatory process through notice and comment. The Executive branch, in turn, is required to receive those comments, to seriously consider them, and to fully respond. Commenting is an important way to have your voice heard on regulations. And did you know? Sending comments to USDA on proposed rule changes is not lobbying.

The Roundtable worked closely with our national partners, including the National CACFP Forum, to draft thoughtful and timely sample comments. We designed these samples comments to be a guide and resource for quickly and easily submitting feedback to USDA.
